Protecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

PII Protection

For organizers/exhibitors that expect a higher level of privacy, Captello offers additional protection of personally identifiable information (PII). Captello’s PII protection is a badge scanning feature that can be implemented at Exhibitor Portal events to protect the privacy of attendees. It is used to hide email addresses of attendees on the Captello mobile app. Once an attendee’s information has been scanned, the email address will be hidden, and can only be revealed if the attendee gives it out to the app user.

Enabling PII Protection

To implement PII protection at your event, contact your Captello representative.

PII Protection Additional Settings

The following settings only work if PII is enabled for your event. Make sure to contact your Captello representative to enable it.

Selecting What Information to Encrypt

From the capture form’s properties, select what data to cnrypt from ‘PII Encryption Mode’.

Options to Reveal PII

As a general rule, when any information is decrypted on the form, it cannot be encrypted back.

Revealing PII Using Attendee’s Email Address

From the capture form properties, you can allow users to reveal PII information using the email address of the attendee (ensuring attendee is giving consent by giving their email).

When this option is enabled, tapping the encrypted fields will give you the option to
reveal them.

Once the correct email is entered, it will start showing on the app, including on the successful
submissions list.

Revealing PII Using a Consent Field

A Captello boolean field can be added to the form and set up to be used as a consent check for revealing PII.

To set up the boolean field to as a PII consent field, make sure to do the following:

  • Make sure the default value is ‘Unchecked'.

  • Enable the ‘Decrypt Submission’ toggle.

Captured email addresses are only hidden on the mobile app, but they will be visible on the portal web app and exports.
